IN Charters Towers recently a man gave the hotel keepers a real turn. He victimised 10 of them with forged cheques.
There has since been an amusing sequel to the affair. One publican remarked that the forgeries were a “clean sweep”, and were an “office” for the winner of the Melbourne Cup.
Consequently several of the victims backed Clean Sweep [pictured] for the Cup, and they won from £20 to £100 each.
