The temporary White House Hotel, built within days of the original pub’s destruction by fire in 1898.

By the following year the temporary pub was replaced with this substantial structure. 

FIRE destroyed a number of buildings, including the White House Hotel, in the Western Australian gold mining town of Menzies in 1898. Within a few days the thirsty miners were again propped against the bar when a “temporary pub” replaced the ruins of their drinking hole.
