Willie Jones, 104 to-day, and for many years undisputed claimant to the title of oldest inhabitant at the Lidcombe State Home [NSW], now has a challenger. A new arrival, Bill Campbell, who offered Willie birthday greetings, claimed he was 107. Picture above shows Willie Jones pouring beer at his party in Ward 11 today. Second at back is Willie Campbell. Others in the group are Michael Finn, 75, Edward Maun, 87, and Charlie Catley, 93. Jones said: “When I was two and a half I fell out of a window and two doctors told my mother there was no hope for my life. But she went down on her knees and prayed — and here I am, 104.”
