Heaven forbid! A publican serving his customers?
Here’s a little beauty from 1930, when the publican of the Imperial Hotel in Adelaide was forced to go behind the bar and pull a few beers for his customers after barmen and women had a stop work meeting.

PUBLICAN SERVES THE BEER HIMSELF – Because barmen, in obdedience to a decision of a meeting held yesterday, did not present themselves for duty today, Mr. J.H. Flannagan (proprietor of the Imperial Hotel) and his son Max had to go behind the counter and supply the wants of customers.
