THE former City View Hotel sits on the corner of Vine Street and Abercrombie Street, opposite the Eveleigh Hotel, in Sydney’s inner-south.

The City View was established by John Walsh in 1877 and it traded for 88 years before Tooth & Company purchased the hotel in 1929, later removing its license to Sydney’s south-west.

Tooths brewery removed the City View’s license to Miller, near Liverpool, in 1965. The last licensee of the Redfern pub was Les Waddell. Prior to Waddell, Ron Madden hosted the City View for many years.

The City View Hotel closed for business on May 25 1965, allowing the Green Valley Hotel at Miller to open for business on the same day.
