As Sydney sweltered in a heat-wave in the summer of 1945, hotels were popular. This was the scene at 1pm on Saturday November 3 in the bar of the Astra Hotel, Bondi. The Sydney Sun reported the “average success of thirsty drinkers in the crowded bar was two drinks per hour”.
