JIM STRACHAN.
Jim Strachan, the now licensee of the Normanby Hotel, Red Hill, is of Scotch birth, but came to Queensland when very young. He has followed mining nearly all his life, and is well-known in Charters Towers, where since 1892 he has been connected with mining as a jobber in stocks and shares. He was also a prominant member of the football club, and has medals for 1893, 4, 5. The Sport of Kings has also a fascination for Mr. Strachan, who is well known at the Farm.
He went home to see the Coronation and on returning settled in Brisbane. Quite lately his present hotel, the Normanby – the first license he has held –which was to some extent under a cloud, owing to the malpractices of the previous licensee, but by strict attention to the requirements of his patrons, and an indomit energy, he has already doubled the business the house was doing when he took it over.
Mr. Strachan will be a welcome addition to Brisbane bonifaces.
